Frequently Asked Questions.
Why do some synthetic lawns look fake?
Turfs with older technology tend to look shiny; one-color “flat” fibers with directional grain in particular catch and reflect more light. Installations that are flat as a pool table also look artificial, since few natural lawns look that way. We exclusively installs state-of-the-art TigerTurf, a leader in yarn technology and multi-green extruded fibers that reflect less light and look most lifelike. And in preparation for your project, we can recommend the most natural-looking profile for your lawn – using the existing grade, or perhaps some adjustments for a crown or contouring.
What maintenance is required with artificial turf?
Natural grass needs regular watering, mowing, weeding, fertilizing etc. … but none of that TLC is involved with our synthetic lawn. It’s virtually maintenance-free. A gentle brooming may be necessary, or occasional use of a leaf blower to remove yard debris. You can rinse off the turf when pets “do their business,” or when dust collects. For a heavy traffic area, brush the blades back into place as needed. That’s about all, folks.
What’s the best turf for me?
We don’t believe in a one-turf-fits-all mindset; almost every job is unique. For a lawn that receives minimal traffic from a household with no pets, we’re not going to sell you the grass we’d recommend for a playground or a dog run. From our many varieties of synthetic grass we’ll recommend the best turfs for your specific needs with the appropriate color combinations for your location.
What is "face weight"?
In the turf business, face weight measures how much yarn is manufactured per square yard, excluding the backing or infill. More face weight = more synthetic grass fiber, and more synthetic grass means greater density and a plusher lawn.
What is "infill"?
The contemporary concept for synthetic lawns calls for granules distributed between the grass fibers as a synthetic soil, or infill. Common infill materials are silica and rubber, and we feature Envirofill, a non-absorbent, non-toxic infill. Infilling the turf helps keep the turf fiber from matting; rubber infill also provides shock absorbency for playgrounds or sports fields. The denser the turf, the less infill it will accept.
How long does artificial grass last?
Our synthetic grass by TigerTurf has a limited 15-year manufacturer’s warranty. However, an artificial lawn can be expected to last longer. Depending on use and location, a typical lifespan for turf of this quality and construction is as much as 15 years or more.
Does a synthetic lawn drain as well as natural grass?
Synthetic lawn features perforations in the backing to allow for efficient drainage, and our installation process includes a free-draining base. Our lawn provides drainage superior to natural grass for all-weather use; properly installed, as much as 40 inches of water per hour can percolate through the system.
Is synthetic grass good for pets?
Definitely. The synthetic grass fibers are supple but durable, non-absorbent and hypo-allergenic, resulting in a soft, lifelike pile that pets like to romp and sleep on. Our grass also drains well and is easy to clean – solid waste can be simply removed, liquid waste drains through the backing, and the lawn can be rinsed with water or household cleaners – so pet owners like our grass too.
Is artificial grass safe?
Of course. The synthetic grass fiber in our lawns is 100% polyethylene – “milk-carton plastic” – that contains no lead or other heavy metals and is toxin-free. The turf is non-abrasive and bacteria-resistant, so it’s gentle on the skin. Ours is a truly “green” product that stays green and doesn’t contribute to clogging the landfills; our grass is recyclable, conserves resources and environmentally responsible.
Does synthetic grass get hot?
Synthetic grass is designed to respond like natural grass, and in most conditions the surface temperatures will be similar. In full sun, synthetic grass absorbs more heat (Mother Nature gave natural grass the gift of transpiration) but turf should not be uncomfortable for feet or paws. A quick spray of water can provide instant cooling.
How much time is needed for installation?
Your yard won’t be torn up for weeks. Depending on the size and scope of your project, a synthetic lawn can be completely install in one day. Larger installations will take a little longer. We won’t rush your project, but we understand that you’re going to be anxious to have your synthetic grass installed as quickly as possible and we’ll make that happen.
What does artificial grass cost?
It’s priced by the square foot. Basically, the amount of fiber determines the cost of each variety; the denser and pusher, the more expensive the turf. The initial cost of synthetic grass is greater than sodding or seeding a lawn — but because turf requires none of the constant maintenance, those savings typically offset that difference within a few years. Over time, a synthetic lawn will cost significantly less than natural grass. A representative can provide a specific price for your project with a free estimate.
